El conflicto entre Israel y Palestina alcanza niveles críticos con nuevos ataques aéreos israelíes en la Franja de Gaza durante la noche y la madrugada del miércoles. El recrudecimiento de la ofensiva israelí es en respuesta a un ataque sin precedentes llevado a cabo por Hamás, el grupo militante islámico que controla Gaza.

Este conflicto, que cobró la vida de al menos 2.200 personas en ambos lados, está tomando un giro más peligroso. El ataque de Hamás, ocurrido el fin de semana, fue una respuesta al deterioro de las condiciones de vida para los palestinos bajo la ocupación israelí. Esto intensificó la determinación de Israel para poner fin al dominio de Hamás en la Franja de Gaza.

El ejército israelí informó que más de 1.200 personas perdieron la vida en el país desde el inicio de la incursión el pasado sábado, incluyendo 155 soldados. En Gaza, el Ministerio de Salud reporta más de 1.050 personas fallecidas y 5.100 heridas. Según la agencia de Naciones Unidas para los refugiados palestinos, aproximadamente 250.000 personas en el territorio palestino se vieron obligados a desplazarse debido a la escalada del conflicto.

CIERRAN LA CENTRAL ELÉCTRICA DE GAZA

La única central eléctrica de Gaza se quedó sin combustible, lo que obliga a su cierre luego de que Israel cortase el suministro de electricidad, dijo el Ministerio de Energía del territorio el miércoles. Eso convierte a los generadores en la única fuente de electricidad en la Franja.

El corte de electricidad se produce en un momento en que Israel decidió bloquear los envíos de combustible a Gaza en medio de lo que el gobierno califica de “asedio total” al territorio gobernador por el grupo insurgente Hamás.

La agencia de Naciones Unidas para los refugiados palestinos dijo a The Associated Press el miércoles que nueve de sus trabajadores murieron desde el inicio de los bombardeos israelíes sobre Gaza el sábado, incluyendo varios el martes en la noche.

“La protección de los civiles es fundamental, incluso en tiempos de conflicto”, dijo Juliette Touma, directora de comunicaciones de la UNRWA. “Deberían ser protegidos de acuerdo con las leyes de la guerra”.

Según Touma, los ataques mataron a los trabajadores de la ONU en sus casas en todo el territorio. El operativo israelí causó daños en 18 escuelas de la agencia convertidas en refugios y en su sede en la Ciudad de Gaza, añadió.
